Feb 20, 2006 | 12:15 pmAn average voice in and of itself, eh, but a striking touch with covers, often improving on the original. That's saying something, given that the original in this case is Gordon Lightfoot's.
Viola's 12-inchers on Sugar Hill, Ariola and Sunergy are hard enough to find. But pay whatever you can afford for a mint copy of the "If You Could Read My Mind" LP on Ariola, which features brilliant edits of this and half a dozen other covers (e.g. "Up On The Roof," "There's Always Something There To Remind Me." This LP surely ranks among the two or three dozen best of the disco era.

The Ariola white label 12" promo (same number) contains additionally a short version of "If You.." (2:58) on the B side. The label design is the small word Ariola under a globe, both within the confines of a square box, similar to what is sometimes seen on certain of Ariola's European releases and on two or three other U.S. promos (e.g. Forecast's "Love Line")
