MUSIC REVIEW & RECORD COLLECTOR NOTES

When I first bought this promo LP by Gaz (about seven years ago), for some reason I disliked it, except for "Synth He Sized Her", which I found to be the only half-decent track. So it stayed on the shelf, with other disco records I'd bought for the jacket, or for the producers or musicians, and that had not lived up to the blind (or deaf, for that matter) expectations I'd put in them. In this case, the triggers had been Mats Bjoerklund, Keith forsey & Thor Baldursson, habitual co-workers of genius Giorgio Moroder.

But lately, having heard good words about this record, I decided to give it another listen. Was I up to a surprise!
"Sing Sing" is a killer track, the intro both reminiscent of Sir Joe Quarterman and '80s funk bands. The phrase: "To sing all night" sung by the chorus, was one of those samples I'd heard in numerous rap tracks throughout the '80s and wondered where they'd been sampled from.

"Indian Gaz" has a beautiful female chorus, accompanied by gracious horns & strings.
I could comment every track, and it would amount to one excellent record, if more instrumental than vocal-driven...

What an incredible line-up.So much talent involved.
Honestly - the moment I saw those names on the record - it was enough for me to get it.

    Then I discovered the music...

Yes "Indian Gaz" is Charleston influenced, it's really quite fast and frantic, that one.

My favourite track on this LP is "Interstellar Love Affair", with its cheesy dialogue. Woman says "Let me show you how we do it on OUR planet"!

"Sing Sing" is a dancer's jackpot, with break after break of multilayered percussion.

I have never heard "Indian Gaz," but someone described it as a really good sendup of The Charleston. True?
