MUSIC REVIEW & RECORD COLLECTOR NOTES

Who hasn't heard Turn the Beat Around by Vicki Sue Robinson? After all these years it's one of the few songs that I can still listen to even though it's played all the time. This song was from the Never Gonna Let You Go album from 1976 and was rehashed years later by Gloria Estefan, but the original is far superior to Gloria's cover so except no imitations.

Vickie Sue Robinson began her singing and acting career at the age of sixteen by appearing in the Broadway musical, Hair and was in the motion picture, Jesus Christ Superstar and other films. Unfortunately while in the midst of a musical comeback Vicki Sue Robinson passed away in 2000 from cancer.

Other releases included Daylight on RCA Records and To Sir With Love on Promise Records in the mid 1980s. Her producer, Warren Schatz went on to produce the hugely popular Disco version of Memory from the Broadway musical Cats.

Listen to Turn the Beat Around by Vicki Sue Robinson on American Bandstand:

...and Vicki's appearance on the Midnight Special:

In the above performance: Vicki Sue Robinson Band (1976): Danny Pickering on flute, Nacho Mena on percussion, Butch (aka Vernie) Taylor on guitar, Wendy Simmons on bass, Bill "Vito" Cerulli on drums, and Joey Melotti on keyboards (who had replaced George Pavlis).

Yes, Gerald is my real Godfather. Herbert Brevard is my real dad too. LOL :-)

Gerald and Peter are still performing the old tracks and you can find their songs on YouTube now. I am sure you can get access to them from there. And yes I know Tom and Michael(who passed), very well as you may assume due to Herb.

Did you realise the writers are Peter and Gerald Jackson from the r&b group "Touch of Class" These two talented Brothers scored big with this one tune. They also enjoyed some success as Touch of Class with 'Im in Heaven" released on the Midsong International label
