Barbara Pennington
Twenty Four Hours A Day (12")
United Artists Records (US) / 1977 / UA-DW928-C
12" Disco single 33 ⅓ rpm vinyl record
Producer(s) : Ian Levine and Danny Raye Leake
Side A
Twenty-Four Hours A Day (9:22)
Side B
Twenty-Four Hours A Day (9:22)
Pennington's version of this song was a remake of Erma Franklin, "Gotta Find Me A Lover (24 Hours A Day)."
24 Hours A Day was produced by Ian Levine who was the producer of James Well's classic "My Claim To Fame." Although hailing from the US, Barbara Pennington achieved more success in the UK and eventually did a lot of backing vocals for Levine's other Hi-NRG artists during the '80's like Miquel Brown's "So Many Men."

Sep 01, 2007 | 3:52 pm"Great" hardly describes this totally awesome record. Gospel-style vocals that send a chill up my spine, sweeping strings, a funky clavinet, teasing false endings, this song has it all. I play it as often now as when it was released. "24 hours a day, no matter what time it is I can't stay away!" she says (actually, she screams). So good it makes me dizzy.

Feb 15, 2005 | 3:09 amBARBARA PENNINGTON'S "24 hours a day" was a big US disco record in 1976 - try the original minimalist 12" mix with its walking bassline. Great track !

I've been searching for this since that summer in 77 when I used to hear it everyday looking for my first job as a 15 yr old boy in Maywood Illinois!! Unbelievable song! I had to research without knowing the name of the artist or the song and i finally found it at discosavvy.com. With that bass line, those strings...horns and synth...GREATEST DISCO SONG...EVER!!!
