MUSIC REVIEW & RECORD COLLECTOR NOTES

Odyssey's "Native New Yorker" is a true Disco classic up in Harlem, down on Broadway or just about any place you call home. From the production team that brought us Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band. Vocals by Lillian Lopez. White label promo on RCA Records. Many may recall that co-producer Charlie Calello put out a cover of "Sing, Sing, Sing."

I played the tenor sax solo in this song when I was in a disco band in the 70's. Also solos for Diana Ross' "I'm Getting Ready For Love", Nicolette Larson's "Lotta Love" (alto), and The Carpenters[?] "All You Get From Love Is A Love Song" (tenor) - yeah, we played that song at disco clubs, too.

I am looking for a cd of the ORIGINAL 1977 RCA Records recording of Native New Yorker by the group Odyssey. I hope someone can steer me in the right direction!!

I Sadly lost my copy of this very same collectible Promo long time ago, but recently I was lucky enough to find the exact 12" on a Canadian copy ( PD-11063) spinning at 45 RPM.

I'd say Native New Yorker is one of the most enduring disco songs ever. It is still played on the radio a quarter century later, and it just makes one feel good. The only disappointment I have ever had with this record is that the album version had that sweet saxophone intro that was omitted from the 12" single. Otherwise the record is flawless. The team that put this together should be darned proud!
