'High Energy' was the last charting album by The Supremes, and features their last top 40 hit as well - "I'm Gonna Let My Heart Do The Walking" (#1 Dance chart/Club play; #40 Pop, #23 R&B). Though "High Energy" also charted #1 Dance chart/Club play, it was listed with "I'm Gonna Let My Heart Do The Walking", it was not commercially released as a single (a rumoured 12" DJ single allegedly exists).
The Supremes roster on this album are Mary Wilson, Scherrie Payne and Cindy Birdsong (although Susaye Greene was overdubbed on a couple songs and sang lead on the title track before becoming a full time member when Birdsong departed shortly before the album was released). Other than the disco oriented songs, Mary Wilson lends her voice to the 2 ballads on this album - "Don't Let My Teardrops Bother You", and "Till The Boat Sails Away/I Don't Want To Lose You" medley. The album 'Mary, Scherrie & Susaye' was released just a few months after 'High Energy', and the group soon disbanded in mid 1977. Overall, a must-have for disco collectors.
Will be issued on CD via Hip-O Select in 2005-06 (part of a 70's Supremes boxed set, in "Volume 2" of 2)
