- "Sunshine Love" by Canadian group Metal Weeds is perhaps producer Tony Green's earliest Disco project on vinyl. Tony Green is best known for producing France Joli, Kebekelektrik, Goldie Alexander and others.
Two similar versions of "Sunshine Love" are included in this early Canadian RCA "Limited Edition" 12 inch single, one a little longer than the other. The lush strings used throughout are almost a throwback to Silver Convention, but with funky guitars and a killer break thrown in.
I would have to say that this is easily Tony Green's best work besides Kebekelektrik since his material with U. N. (Disco Power) and Freddie James (Holywood, Get Up and Boogie) tended to sound the same with the thumping and muddy bass.

This is an interesting cut by Metal Weeds. It's got some bizarre, yet cool, breakdowns; a great bassline; and kind of a psychedelic feel. Even though this is a Tony Green production, it sounds more like a Black Light Orchestra project. One of the co-writers of the track was Dominic Sciscente, the brains behind Black Light Orch. And the musicians, especially the bass player, sounds like they were the same guys on the mid 70s Black Light Orchestra records (the late 70s projects featured Philly musicians if I'm not mistaken). Worth checking out in the long 12" versions, and the shorter 45 disco (4 min)/AM radio versions.
