Mayana
Skips A Beat (12")
Graffiti Records (UK) 1983 / 12 GRAFT 2
12" Disco single 45 rpm
Producer(s): Paul Gurvitz
Side A
1. Skips A Beat
Side B
1. Skips A Beat (Dub)
2. No Love On the Run
Little if anything is known of Mayana (presumably Russian) who had a nice track in 1983 called "Skips A Beat" on the UK label Graffiti. It was later brought stateside as a promo 12" on Atlantic (DMD 681). Despite being a very good song it didn't seem to do much here in the US. I still recall buying this British import at Rock and Soul in New York for only $3.99 when it first came out.

Sep 24, 2007 | 6:00 pmwith regards to the comments about MAYANA
she was from iceland and the record "SKIPS A BEAT"went to number 62 in the billboard dance charts,
i was writing the song and at the time MAYANA
and i were an item and i asked her to sing on the demo just to show the publisher the idea and the next thing you know is she was signed to a label "rialto"
MAYANA was a catwalk model at the time and was
5'9'' and hot, but unfortunately not the best of singers,
there was a follow up single SHAKIN' ALL OVER
a johnny kid and the pirates song but it never went anywhere, she eventually married a very wealthy banker and lives in london, and it was the begining of a string of pop dance songs i wrote for a lot of UK and US artists which you will find @

I enjoyed reading this page. This tune was often played at FM stations in Japan in those days, and I liked its danceable beat, unique vocals and synthesizer riffs in the break.
