I was living in Minneapolis and was friends with Walter McLean at Wide Angle when they were working on the Viola Wills record. Viola was married to a local boy at the time. I was at Wide Angle's record shop one day when Viola dropped in to check with Walter on the progress of Both Sides Now. Walter put on the latest tape and played it on the record store sound system. I rushed from the back of the store pleading for a copy, not knowing who the artist was or that my idol Viola Wills was right there across the counter from Walter. They were both pretty happy with my enthusiastic response and I was elated to actually meet Viola.

I was disappointed when she did not include the last verse but instead drifted into an unpleasant "I can feel you" trance thing. The song would have been an A+ if she would have done the whole song. Walter more recently told me that they had given her every opportunity to do the complete song but it was her decision. She was getting a bit weird about the demise of her career and her marriage. When the going gets tough, the divas get crazy.

(Months later I even got to have lunch with her at the Cafe Di Napoli - That was after her divorce from local boy Bob Ashmun when she was about to release These Things Happen which she felt was her recovery from divorce song).
