Feb 22, 2009 | 4:29 amONCE UPON A TIME is Donna's masterpiece.
I still listen to this one from beginning to end and I'm still amazed.
ACT 2 is EXTRAORDINARY...

Sep 30, 2005 | 9:29 amDance music's premiere LP, it contains nearly every element still popular in today's dance and pop. Whether the influence is house, new wave, dance, electronica, or dance/rock, all the elements come togther here for the first time with Moroder's synthesized, dj ready suites. Act One's "Faster and Faster to Nowhere" is a nightmarish, dizzying swirl of electronic imagery, and, with "Fairy Tale High", sets up the LP's modern day Cinderella theme. The dance grooves are stronger, more forceful beats that masterfully guide ethereal, synthized chords. Act Two further develops "I Feel Love"'s revolutionary style, adding layers of possibilities and single handedly establishing viability of a whole new form of music. Combine "Rumour Has It" and "Dance Into My Life" with Act Two, and it becomes nearly impossible to imagine Bronski Beat, New Order, Madonna, Depeche Mode, or the Eurythmics. Only today is this LP beginning to get the respect it deserves. Upon its original release, the sound was so foreign and ahead of its time, most critics deemed it over-produced. DJ's and Dance Clubs, however, heard it differently. Entire sides of the LP were spun on dance floors, thanks in part to the non-stop, dj ready suites of songs featured on each of the 4 sides. The result was that ALL the LP cuts were deemed #1 on Billboards Dance Singles Chart.
