NOTES ON THIS VINYL RECORD:

Indian-born, European-based singer Asha Puthli recorded this LP in 1978, which was initially released in much of Europe and Canada with a slightly different tracklist and album cover.

This US version was released the following year on the Dash/TK Label who, in the process, comissioned a different cover and omitted her last name from the album. The three tracks on Side One were perhaps the most disco influenced and were specially remixed (and improved) by Richie Rivera for the US release. "I'm Gonna Dance" was released as a 12" single.

Perhaps one of the most eclectic and unique disco albums by one of the most eclectic, unique and underrated artists of her time. It probably had little chance for commerical success, but is nevertheless an excellent album, if you can find it.

Prior to this LP, Asha had worked with Jazz innovator Ornette Coleman and released a couple of albums in the US on the Columbia label to little stateside success. Despite minimal US commercial success, her records acquired a significant cult following and remained quite well-known in Europe. Producer Jean Van Loo was also the producer behind Chocolats and the Patrick Hernandez mega-hit "Born To Be Alive."

Reader Comments on Asha Puthli

Asha Puthli is not only one of the greatest disco singers - with her brilliant and unique voice she did incredibly beautiful interpretations in almost every kind of music, from standards like Lennon's "Love" to club classics like her very own "Space Talk". Talking about her disco albums: with "L'Indiana" nobody would get disappointed - it's just GREAT STUFF! Don't miss it!
