This LP came from the same writers and producers of Madleen Kane's first two LPs, "Rough Diamond" and "Cheri".
The songs on the LP are good, and all uptempo except "Victim of the past". The title track is an anti-feminist anthem, stating the virtues of being feminine, e.g.
"You can't be a quarter back, he can't wear a sexy dress
You cannot be superman, and he's not a shy princess
So why try to be alike, when it's only self-defence..."

Feb 22, 2009 | 4:21 amWent dancing to OZ in Montreal and during the evening the DJ played FIRST BE A WOMAN 3 times.
Slow night - you might say ? Yes but it got my attention...
Madleen Kane-sounding (not surprising considering who is involved); this album is a good one. Many more hits can be found. C'EST LA VIE is bubbly & fun.

This was played on NY radio in summer 1980. I always thought it sounded like I Will Survive.
