MUSIC REVIEW & RECORD COLLECTOR NOTES
One of my first 12" records. Don't know much about this group M.A.N., but they sound like the Village People.

Now this I do know.....
in 1978 the 'macho' image was everywhere, thanks to the village people's 'macho man'. it crossed over to pop(hetero)culture, and companies wanted in. Faberge was a big seller of woman's perfume, and wanted to cash in on the male market. They created a cologne called Macho, along with talc powder, gift sets, even Macho necklaces. they couldn't get the rights to the village people's tune so a similar song was created . Back then you can get away with that (sort of). it was even recorded at Sigma Sound Studios, the same studio they recorded the village people. the NYC FM disco stations broadcast ads with the song, and had a few dj sets that incorporated the instrumental dub version (part 2). the full vocal version was rarely played. Other DJs didn't want to play the village people because of lyrical content, so they played this version by M.A.N. So in many ways, this single is rare on several factors.
