Taana Gardner, named after the Taana River in Nairobi, had gotten her start in 1979 by doing the vocals on "Spooks In Space" by Aural Exciters (a. k. a. Kid Creole and the Coconuts). Soon after Taana Gardner gave us "Work That Body" and "When You Touch Me" on her LP for West End.
In 1980 West End Records released Taana's "Heartbeat" and had it mixed by the late Larry Levan. It went on to be the top selling 12 inch record in West End history. The 12 inch single featured here contains two mixes.
Taana Gardner's "Heart Beat" is still as fresh today as it was upon its release in 1980 and has been sampled numerous times since.

Apr 08, 2008 | 10:23 amOne of LARRY'S best works. He turned a maybe into a PRIME TIME PLAYER. On my turntables for a few months. On my scale, from 1-10, it gets an 8.

One of my first purchases as a mobil deejay. Still one of my favorites.
