Let us all put our hands together for one of the baddest anti-disco jams ever recorded. Released as a single in January of 1978, "Flash Light" topped the Billboard soul charts in March of that year, staying at the summit for three weeks. It damn near single-handedly revolutionized dance music due to several key ingredients: a ridiculously deep bass line, supplied not by a bass guitar, but by a bass synthesizer courtesy of keyboardist extraordinaire Bernard Worrell; loud-a** hand clapping, and a vocal rotation of what sounds like at least 50 people in one room. All of this chaos/order supervised by the good Dr. Funkenstein himself, George Clinton, assisted by co-horts Garry Shider, Bootsy Collins and other assorted clones. This record also has the infamous distinction of being blamed for almost putting bass players out of work, as many in the dance music field(as well as new wave) utilized the bass synth with slightly less spectacular results. This essential moment in dance floor history became Parliament's second million selling single. The concept of the down stroke took center stage with the release of this full tilt P-Funk hit.
