What Bernie says; what's more, the immaculate sentiment of a jazz pro, conceived by John Davis at the top of his game.
Disco turned over and again to the past. But for every "Dr. Buzzard's Original 'Savannah' Band" or "Begin the Beguine" by Johnny Mathis, ten Tuxedo Junctions and worse gave the public another reason to hate disco. Not this Gamble and Huff composition, which might as well have been ripped from the Great American Songbook. The result is as relaxed and confident as a good jazz record, with the percussive groove you'd expect from a New York indie spinning in the shadow of Salsoul, Prelude and West End.
I can't call this SAM's best record, as opposed to "Keep On Dancin," "Let's Do It," or minor masterpieces like "Hupendi Musiki Wangu (You Don't Like My Music)," which the label had a knack for. But it was SAM's finest hour; a record Salsoul could only wish for, IMO, and which Prelude and West End wouldn't have tried.
