Chicago is all about House music. From acid to techno, groovy to soulful, diva filled vocal tracks to funk, it has it all. The release of Phantasmagoria, making its way to the UK and beyond, by Nico Demonte, received radioplay and was inspired by Phutureís "Acid Trax,î DJ Ron Hardy, Jesse Saunders, Devo, Adonis, K-Alexi and the genius of Larry Sherman. A pivotal point came with the 1986 releases of the House anthem of "Move Your Body" by Marshall Jefferson, and Maurice Joshua / Hot Hands Hula's "This Is Acid." Nico Demonte's influences come from the early Warehouse years, with the classic by "Jumpin" Perez's "Jack Me Till I Scream". And with that, add a little George Clinton and your off to the races Nico.
Its clear from listening to this record that Nico Demonte was influenced by Farley JackMaster Funk's "Love Can't Turn Around", Steve "Silk" Hurley "Jack Your Body", Femme Fion's "Jack The House," Mike Hitman Wilson, Barry White, Bee Gees, Chic, Frankie Knuckles. If you listen close, amidst the moody techno rhythms of Nico Demonte's classic Chicago style, you can find synthesized influences of the UK and German influences like Kraftwerk, Telex, and the Italian composer Giorogio Moroder. Its a hot record and its rarely on the shelves. Good luck finding it.
