NOTES ON THIS VINYL RECORD:

The Ritchie Family have gone through countless line-up changes and producers over the years. This 1982 effort is quite good as it features the proudction work of the late Jacques Fred Petrus (Change, Peter Jacques Band, Macho, BB & Q Band...)

If you never got into the Ritchie Family because it was too over the top and fluffly then you'll get into this as it is more funky and substantial. The song is taken from the "I'll Do My Best" album.

Reader Comments on Ritchie Family

This record is incredible. Heavily Chic influenced as a amatter of fact it sounds like Ritchie Family singing a Chic record Jacques Fred Petrus was an amazing producer. Its what you do to survive in dance music, make a song that sounds like whats playing on the radio!!! Of course by the time this came out Chic had evolved and moved on so i guess although this song was from 1982 i believe it could have been on a Chic Lp from 1980

So-so Chic imitation, not a rip-off per se but a slavish imitation that embodied the self-effacing lyric from Chic's 1992 retrospective LP "Chicism" a later: "Crisp Cliches and Witty Words/Vocalists that Chirp Like Birds."

A big beat and competent playing just about got "I'll Do My Best" by on black radio in Northeastern U.S. cities in the summer of 1982. But this was nobody's favorite record, and was sneered at in serious clubs.
