MUSIC REVIEW & RECORD COLLECTOR NOTES

This is the infamous sought after and talked about soundtrack to the 1980 slasher film "Prom Night"! As you can see, yes it does exsist. Extremely rare however as only a few thousand copies or so were made avalible in Japan only.

Now about the music, if you havent seen the film heres a brief rundown. Tons of the disco tracks on this LP are absolutly brilliant however resemble alot of other disco tracks of the time in one way or another. "Changes" is a pure rip off of Gino Soccio's "Dancer. "Time To Turn Around" is very simmaler to Patrick Hernandez "Born To Be Alive". "Prom Night Pt.2" is almost a Cheryl Lynn "Star Love" rip off. Some of these tracks wernt actualy used in the film, but most were.

There are some non disco tracks on this LP. "All Is Gone" is a David Bowie style rock/pop ballad. "Fade To Black" is the infamous closing credits song which is a great beautiful pop ballad if you like this type thing and "Forever" is a mid tempo rock kinda ballad.

The highlight of this LP is "Love Me Till I Die" which is a pure almost fooling to the ear Alec R. Costandinos type production. If I didnt know better, id swear it was him! Good luck finding this LP..its a gem and all around 4 star LP from a cheese horror film.

I just got this on cd. Obviously a CD-r but it's nice to have anyway. Honestly, the music is not that great. "Prom Night 2" and "Love Me Til I Die" are kinda funky, and "Dancing In The Moonlight" is also a bit disco-licious but the other tracks are filler with a capital F. Still, I had to buy it. I love the disco dance sequence in the movie with Jamie Lee Curtis and the cute curly haired boy (is he the guy from the Beverly Hills Cop movies?)...

Excellent soundtrack indeed. "Time to turn around", among others, is an especially pleasant track. Not really for those looking for genius in music; rather for those into quality, if not incredibly inspired, alternate additions to their disco rarities collection...

Another B movie but I liked it anyway. And of course the rockin' music saved its ratings! However, I heard a rumor that there will be a brand new modern 'Prom Night' coming out in 2008. Any truth in this?
