Witch Queen's "Bang A Gong" has to be among the worst Disco songs ever. Gino Soccio productions are normally must haves except this one.

Apr 23, 2008 | 10:06 amWOW!!!! BERNIE, you are totally wrong!!! You are not even in the ball park! I disagree with you 180 percent, I go the exact other way. It is a DISCO CLASSIC!!! The Dance floor would overflow whenever I played this record. It was deejay friendly, great introduction, fabulous breaks. A fantastic record to double up on and remix it to death. Sometimes, Bernie, you are on an ISLAND all by yourself!! You missed the boat, and are now stranded!! On my scale from 1-10,one of "the worst DISCO songs ever" gets a 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Witch Queen's "Bang A Gong" has to be among the worst Disco songs ever": I couldn't disagree more. This is among my favorite disco tracks ever; it's a pleasure to listen to the full long version every time.

Jan 14, 2005 | 7:07 pmI don't know that I would call Bang A Gong one of "the worst disco songs ever". It is bouncy and light and FUN, and that's what disco was about... fun. It pays homage to the original T Rex recording, and has more zing to it than the Power Station cover of the 80's. From a club play standpoint, the record is amazingly steady for an analog recording, making it sweet to work with, and Socio and company put a nice long percussion intro on it. I still really like this record.

In addition to the original promotional 12" issue of "Bang.." pictured above, it was again shortly thereafter reissued promotionally by RCA (JD 11574) with a shorter 6:00 version of "Bang.." on both sides. We used it to mix in and out of the longer 9:56 version because the competitor club down the street only had one copy. It wasn't an all-time favourite of ours, but it did make the cash register ring, which is what we were primarily employed to make happen, aesthetics and good looks aside.
