Mar 07, 2008 | 5:37 pmWhen one talks about about DISCO one talks about the music being elegant, about the fine strings and it's pulsating drum beat. The production has more soul and class. that was never more evident than in any thing that JOHN DAVIS touched. He had a certain flair, that carried over into the music he produced and arranged. I loved everything his MONSTER ORCHESTRA ever released. Let's talk first about UP JUMPED THE DEVIL. This is without a doubt, a DISCO CLASSIC. It has everything something called that should have. Lets see If I can find them and list them all for you. Start with the vocals, they must have energy and soul; a passion must come from inside them. The music must inspire one to go on the dance floor. There has to be a steady, driving beat to keep you there. The instrumentation must be balanced and crisp. The production has to be deejay friendly. Most of all, the crowds must love it so much, that it has a certain longevity that only applies to DISCO music(what other genre of music loves their oldies more). UP JUMPED THE DEVIL fits each and every one of those categories. This song would not only PACK my dance floors, it would keep them there. NO ONE, I MEAN NO ONE ever left the dance floor when I played this song. I noticed things like that, so I would take my second copy and remix it until it was ME who got tired of it, cause the floor never did!! Easy to mix in and out of, and plenty of breaks to play with. The vocals came at you strong, demanding you pay attention to this record. Today, if a deejay in New York City or Miami or Cairo played this song in the middle of the night, not ONE person would leave the floor, instead others would join in. THAT IS A DISCO CLASSIC. THIS IS A DISCO CLASSIC!!! On my scale from 1-10, UP JUMPED THE DEVIL is a TEN. I'd give it a twenty if I could!!!

Feb 19, 2005 | 10:26 amSecond of my all-time favorite, JOHN DAVIS and THE MONSTER ORCHESTRA lit up dance floors on the hit ''Up jumped the devil''(a disco classic) he was arranger for a numbers of artists such as Grace Jones.
John Davis produced all of the songs for his Monster Orchestra which recorded several great disco tracks in the late 1970's.

Love Magic? It is also reviewed in this section. Check out his bio under "artists". There will be no come-back unfortunately, they all are way-out of the scene. Even John himself. But sometimes wishful thinking works!!
