Dario, Can You Get Me Into Studio 54 was written by August Darnell of Machine and Doctor Buzzard's fame. It's a cute yet very likeable song by Dana & Gene about getting into Studio 54. It's essentially about a guy trying to impress his date, but when he realizes they can't get into Studio 54 he tries to backpedal, but his date, who is heard bickering throughout the record, is insisting that he use his non-existent charm to get them in. Very, very funny.
This song with minor lyric changes was also recorded by Kid Creole and the Coconuts.

Mar 08, 2010 | 9:29 amAaah, yes yes! Life's little challenges. Whether it's finding a way to meet the corrupt dictator or get into Studio 54. We learn there's an angle to everything. With the dictator, it's befriending the children; with Studio 54 it was getting to know what the doormen liked. Only go into battle with the proper weapons is one of life's insurmountable rules. In the Studio 54 case, it turned out to be very simple. We met a gorgeous Chinese hooker one Thursday summer afternoon in 1978 at Cafe de la Paix on Central Park South. We were based in Hong Kong at the time. We got to talking when she asked to borrow the salt shaker on our table, and among other things chatted about Studio 54 and how difficult it was to get in. She volunteered that if we bought her dinner that evening she would show us the trick. We dined and we got in no problem The trick: have a hot Asian babe on your arm, the taller and slimmer the better, and you got in right with all the celebs. No waiting in line. We remember that her name was Danielle and that her favourite song at that time was "Use Ta Be My Girl" by the O'Jays. And, oh yes, we regularly thank her very much for the education.

Mar 06, 2008 | 3:14 pmBeing a big fan of AUGUST DARNELL and DR BUZZARD"S I was delighted when I received this record in the mail almost thirty years ago. My first reaction was to laugh. Coming from New York, and hearing all the horror stories about getting into STUDIO 54, it was hilarious. While understanding all the trouble people had getting in there, I didn't think it would be a good record. I was wrong, I liked it, and I played it. Far from being a DISCO CLASSIC, it had that special sound that all of AUGUST DARNELLS' product had. I attempted to force it down dancers' throats, and met with mixed results. Sometimes it kept everyone dancing, sometimes I almost lost the floor. But when that would start happening, I would simply mix DEPUTY OF LOVE into it. So I can't always get my way. On my scale from 1-10, I am forced to give this record a 5, and only because I liked the song.

Karen, to my knowledge, this song has only been released once on compact disc. The CD is long out of print and a little difficult to find. View more information at: http://www.discomusic.com/cds-more/14003_0_3_0_C/
