MUSIC REVIEW & RECORD COLLECTOR NOTES

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is an Alec R. Costandinos album that I have loved since I first heard it in the late seventies. It wasn't played as often as Romeo and Juliet, but nonetheless ranks right up there with his other masterpieces. If you've never heard it be prepared for a musical treat. If you have, then relive the experience and pop this on the turntable.

Alec R. Costandinos is of Armenian descent and achieved notoriety by co-writing on such works as Love In C Minor with Cerrone in 1976. However he quickly realized that he had to strike out on his own and signed with Casablanca Records to release his works. Many may recall his other works such as Romeo and Juliet, Winds of Change and a few others under his own name. Then there was I've Found Love and Thank God It's Friday under the group Love and Kisses along with other studio groups which included Sumeria and Sphinx-all of which have appeared here first at DiscoMusic.com in the past at one time or another

The Hunchback of Notre Dame was released after Romeo and Juliet and bears his trademark sound throughout and includes the usual cast of characters on background vocals and the engineering staff. Twenty minutes per side of beautifully woven sounds that will transport you to another world, another time. I've played this song a million times since the '70s and I can honestly tell you that I never get tired of hearing it. Even have multiple copies just in case...

"Hunchback..." was issued by Casablanca as a one-sided promotional 12" single in 1978 (NBD 20143 DJ), a few months later than its 'cousin' "Romeo and Juliet".
Like the 'Romeo' 12", it was reduced in time, extracting various tracks from the much longer two-sided LP. Unlike however the 'Romeo' 12" (13:45), it was shrunk into a club-oriented 7:40, masterfully editing and blending various tracks from the album into a dominant, seamlessly fluid instrumental base with over vocals which made it significantly more danceable (and DJ manageable) than the lyric-heavy, heady 'Romeo'. It's only flaw was its too-brief treatment of the vocal track 'Phoebus', in our opinion.

Hi iam from Greece this is a masterpiece! For me Romeo&Juliet and Hunchback of Notre Dame was the best from Alec R. Costandinos. This guy would make SOOOO much money if he was to release his back catalogue on CD!
