- Muse was Grace Jones' third LP, her third and last disco LP, and her last LP before becoming internationally famous with her "Warm Leatherette" LP.
Nevertheless, with this release, there are hints as to the direction Grace Jones is about to take with her career.
Like the two LPs which preceded it, Side A consists of a medley, which at over 20 minutes is the longest single track in my entire collection! The medley is themed as you can tell from the song titles - the highlight for me is "Suffer", featuring additional vocals from Thor Baldursson, and whip cracking noises which Grace appears to enjoy.
Highlights on Side B are "I'll Find My Way To You" which apparently had featured in an Italian B-movie a couple of years previously, and "Don't Mess With the Messer", the single song on this LP arranged by John Davis.
Probably the hardest of Grace Jones' three disco LPs to find, it is well worth a listen.

Grace's "Muse" LP suffered from the disco backlash, it is rarely seen and remains her only album never re-issued on CD. While the music wasn't as much fun as "Fame" (1978), it is still very worthwhile. The medley on side 1 is good, my favourite track being "Suffer" ("Take that! (whip) and that!") but the songs weren't as strong and catchy as on "Fame". The camp is still there, though - listen to Grace going gospel on "Saved" ... "On Your Knees" was the one single lifted from the album, the 12" featuring a splendid drawing by the one & only Mr. Bernstein of a blindfolded Grace. The track ought to have been a bigger hit, it was co-written by D. C. LaRue (of "Let Them Dance" and "Ca-The-Drals" fame). The very enjoyable B-side "Don't Mess With The Messer" was included in a long version on the 12".
In short, "Muse" is worth seeking out if you stumble across a copy.

I was just fantasizing about a re-issue on CD for this LP, one of my favorite Grace Jones albums, despite my overall preference for her early 80s dub albums which are undeniably, a higher form of art. In short, the sin and salvation medley on the A-Side is a disco gem. This album is super rare and for true disco connoisseurs.

I got a copy of this LP at Jive Time today, in Fremont; next to Seattle. All I can say is how amazing this album is. I believe most avid fans [excluding comments from these posts] have stated they feel this to be the definitive disco record of Grace Jones. It was when she finally caught on how to control her magnificent voice. She truely shines on these recordings. I am surprised every song on Side-B was not a Top10 hit. See this one out.

"Saved" is the best cut; perhaps a bit predictable inasmuch as it is sacrilege, but with the right chords and rhythm for Grace's wail, which really improved dramatically on her downtown 80's albums.
The rest of this album is dreck for reasons that hit the ears and feet immediately, but not necessarily the whole brain.
Tom Moulton is up to his typical standard, so I'll blame it on poor material. The album sounds like a tired has-been who still brushes teeth twice daily and makes the bed without fail.

Please, please, can we have a cd issue? This album truly deserves it, come on - anyone out there who can sort it? I've loved this album as much and at times more than any of her others,as it marked her transition in sound and style, criminally ignored - STILL!

I just have to say I wish I could've been here back in the heddy days of disco, but my parents never had good timing so I was born in 1982. As a kid my mom was a recovering disco queen
and loved this album. It wasn't until she passed away that I started to listen to her old records and I must say I missed out!
On Your Knees is just a fabulous song right up there with I Will Survive just listen to what Grace is saying in this song. I've always loved Grace Jones, but I only knew of her 80s work but now listening to her disco gems I love her even more. I have to tell those who read this that I was able to get a copy of this album on CD from eBay it's a dj made disc and had some killer mixes as well as the original work, it truly is a great copy and great sound it's worth seeking out

Island never released it on CD. Just about all of Grace Jones' eary albums have made it to CD. But for some odd reason not MUSE.

This is my favorite Grace Jones Lp...Not a bad song to be found.
It's glorious,risky,naughty and so much fun.
