MUSIC REVIEW & RECORD COLLECTOR NOTES

Grace Jones' second LP, the follow-up to "Portfolio".

Like each of her first three LPs, Side A is devoted entirely to a medley of songs, but unlike Portfolio, all the medley's songs are original, and excellent. The sound of Tom Moulton's production is clearly evident.

Side B starts with a change in tempo - a cover version of Autumn Leaves, and then followed by three more excellent uptempo numbers.

Overall a very solid Grace Jones LP, I'd recommend it.

Listen, after LA VIE EN ROSE everything else pales! But this album kicked butt!! Very popular, and always in high demand. I don't think I ever did a remix of anything on this album, and that speaks volume in itself. Either I felt it stood strong on its own or I used it to take a break. Which do you think it was?? On my scale from 1-10, this album gets a 10. I took a break!!

After a very mixed bag of hits ("La Vie En Rose", "I Need A Man") and misses (the disastrous side 1) on "Portfolio" (1977), Grace's second LP "Fame" (1978) is much better and in fact consistently good and funny stuff from start to finish. "Autumn Leaves" perhaps tries to hard to be a follow-up to "La Vie En Rose" but is nevertheless quite good. Collectors should seek out the Canadian LP version which uniquely includes "Comme un oiseau qui s'envole". An edit of this song was available on the B-side of the "Do Or Die" 7" single, the Canadian LP includes the full-length version! Grace also recorded a track specifically for the Italian release, "Anema E Core" which was also released as a single in Italy.
