Sandy Mercer released a funky and somewhat sleazy sounding Disco single called "Play With Me." It starts off with her mimicking Mae West and saying "Yowsah, yowsah, yowsah, why don't you come up and play with me sometime..." The sound is almost a Jazz meets Dr. Buzzard type of thing and very good.
This Sandy Mercer 12 inch Disco single is rare, but worth looking for and contains the mixing of Walter Gibbons and Steve D'Acquisto.

Feb 12, 2007 | 4:52 pmI'm with Bernie on this one.
"Play With Me" is a remarkably sustained jam. It would be silly to press the point, but this is probably the jazziest hardcore disco record ever made.
It's sleazy because of Sandy's swell vamping (she's as good on this sideas Cory Daye), lyrics as penned by a sex addict at the music conservatory, and an arrangement that feels spontaneous and airily minimalist, even though is as thick and calculated as a Phil Spector. Most of all, the record is fun!
That said, JoeLawrence is right: the flip is the hit everyone seems to remember. It's also very ordinary record. Let's put it this way: I heard "Play With Me" first (it's a morning-music chestnut on the gay circuit). When I finally heard the hit, I was disappointed!
but unique

Feb 18, 2006 | 7:45 amThe B side "You are my Love" was the hit, at least in the NY market. It was played quite frequently in mid 1978 on WBLS. Great song, I have it on vinyl. I even remember seeing her perform it on the show "Soap Factory Disco"(I think), and she did "Play with me"as well which was a not as good and never heard in the clubs.

Mar 14, 2005 | 4:28 am..... Flip this one over !!! ..... This is one of those records where the B side is the real find . Excellent vocals and very busy horns.

The flip side of this Sandy Mercer single, "You Are My Love" is the track that got all the play in New York. As another DiscoMusic.com member stated, it got pretty heavy play on WBLS as well as WKTU. I mean come on, it was remixed by Walter Gibbons AND Steve D'Acquisto! I recently bought a second copy on eBay, in excellent condition for $3.00 !
