Producer(s) : Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers
Side A
Le Freak (5:24)

Savoir Faire (4:53)
The founders of Chic , Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards were masters at the Disco game. Even though much of Chic's music tended to sound alike, it was all great and memorable-especially the bass lines. The duo went on to produce for many big name artists during the 1970s and 80s including Sheila B. Devotion, Sisters Sledge, Diana Ross and David Bowie.
"Le Freak" is perhaps one of Chic's biggest Disco hits and was originally titled "F*ck Off" after being denied entry into famed Disco, Studio 54. It is said that after being rejected at the door of Studio 54, the Chic members went home and started jamming and singing "F*ck Off." The words were eventaully cleaned up to "Le Freak."
Chic would also come out with more Disco singles like "Good Times" and "Everybody Dance." "Good Times" being the rhythm track to "Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang.

Mar 08, 2010 | 8:34 am12" collectors need to be aware of the very scarce promotional 12" (same number) which, on the "Le Freak" side, was done in black and white 'swirl' vinyl throughout the disc (providing a hallucinating touch to one's turntable as it spun around and around and around and....). The "Savoir Faire" side was done also throughout the disc in a solid gray vinyl with the title in large red script, emblazed over a large white CHIC in capital print, with other record details in smaller white lettering below. Both cuts are listed as slightly longer than the times indicated in the synopsis to the regular promo copy pictured above, i.e. 5:30 and 5:02. Issued in a red slipcover (with heavy plastic sleeve) exposing the entirety of the swirled area of the disc.

Mar 05, 2008 | 12:41 pmI didn't know the origins of how this song came to be called LE FREAK. I think it would have also worked if they kept the original title. Man, getting into STUDIO 54 was a hassle wasn't it!! I'm so glad that I was working during those times. I finally went to STUDIO 54 in the final days. Once in there, I felt like telling a lot of people to move! As for this DISCO CLASSIC, CHIC was the pioneer DISCO group of its time. This song lent itself for easy mixing, and for excellent remixes. Doubling up on FREAK OUT was one of the favorite tricks that deejays employed. The crowds loved this song, their rush to the Dance Floor was proof. On my scale from 1-10 it gets an easy 10!!
