MUSIC REVIEW & RECORD COLLECTOR NOTES

I was never a big fan of Luther Vandross, except when he did the vocals on Never Too Much and on this track for the Italian produced (Jacques Fred Petrus and Mauro Malavasi) group Change. This was taken from the Warner/RFC album, The Glow of Love.

You may recall that Change also did Holiday and Paradise as their follow ups. This is the original Promo 12 inch single from 1980.

Great songs of Change: Paradise, A lover`s holiday, It is a girl`s affaire. Good music of the Age of Disco.

You can't fault LUTHER VANDROSS for anything other then his weight. SEARCHING was a DISCO CLASSIC, who said you couldn't dance to this? My dance floors were always PACKED when I played this record. It was soulful, and easy listening to LUTHER'S voice. A great mixable record, that featured excellent breaks and and a great introduction. That meant that I played around with it often. I loved anything by CHANGE. On my scale from 1-10, it gets an easy 10.

If you like Disco music how can you not stand Luther Vandross. Luther contributed more to Disco than most of your DISCO ONE HIT WONDERS. On many disco tracks you can hear Luther in one way or another singing lead or background. He first came out in 1976 on Cotillion Records with the disco group LUTHER and in 1977 THIS CLOSE TO YOU. Both albums were not big hits because the label did not promote them very well. Bottom line they did not believe in Luther Vandross as a major force in the music industry. MAN WHO DROPPED THAT BALL. Think of these albums he sang on that most Disco fans never realized who he was.
    1978 THE GOOD VIBRATIONS
    1978 ROUNDTREE
    1978 BIONIC BOOGIE HOT BUTTERFLY
1979 THE NEW YORK CITY BAND
    1979 CHARME'
    1979 CHARLIE CALELLO ORCESTRA
    1979 SOIREE'
    1979 MASCARA
    1979 BIONIC BOOGIE (TIGER TIGER)
Another side note he was a silent member of Chic from 1977-1979.

i remember searchin..for so looong...change..rfc records..it was ok for a month ..i dj'd in long island at levels back in the day, damn so long ago i realize now..the track really wasn't that great..the end( the song the end) was better, even holiday didn't hold up to good..angel in my pocket was good..and yes never too much was better,,,paradise..the mix had some split second delays , which wasn't good for mixing even with 1200's..overall the first album by change was playable...the next one was lost in the early 80s hype of plasticism but recorded overall with flair

I first heard this at the Paradise Garage and the boys (and girls) just went ape. At the time I was a columnist for a little N.Y. music Magazine called Disc & That (yep!), and when I received "The Glow Of Love" album I damned near wore it out! Of course my fave cut was "Searching". Luthers voice was so beautiful. This is a track that needs to be played LOUD!

Bern, I agree with you on Luther's "Never Too Much" .... I must say that Change's "Searching" is not a good song for dancing, however I dig this record for what it is.
