THE SOFTONES "That old black magic" of 1976 is a disco version of the same classic song, it's also the first 12" single on Hugo and Luigi's H&L label (Van McCoy).

I must be tone deaf. Bernie calls this a "so-so track at best" and I have always loved this song. I recently put it on a mixed CD for a friend and he told me he had to skip by it because the guy singing sounded like an Idol reject? I think I spent too many years with a head phone stuck in my left ear. It's still one of my favorites from that period though.

"So-so?" Yeah, I suppose it's not terribly inspired. But it's well enough done, considering how deliciously campy the song was to begin with!
