"I Love the Nightlife (Disco Round" by Alicia Bridges has been a Disco staple since the beginning and continues to be played, albiet too much, at retro events everywhere.
This is the extended Jim Burgess mix which adds a nice intro to an otherwise over-played, but very good song. Definitely look for the 12 inch Disco mix instead of the LP.
"I Love the Nightlife..." was later reworked by Masters At Work for the Last Days of Disco movie.
DiscoMusic.com member Discokicks had this to say:
There are so many qualities in "I Love The Nightlife" that do it for me. First thing is that quiet, beautifully subdued intro that seems to say "alright everybody, on the floor, the evening's starting... Alicia's going to sing in a minute but before that, we want everyone on the floor"... and it worked. Then, of course there's her classic vocal from soft to demanding with easy-flowing lyrics that no doubt resonated with most dancers who just wanted to forget everything that's wrong in their lives..."aww please don't talk about all of the plans we had for fixing this broken romance".
The whole song just sorta took you by surprise really... no heavy percussion or hot breaks... disco-lite-ish laced with a satisfying adult theme that gave us a good excuse for "selfishly" enjoying ourselves at the disco... "I want to go where the people dance... I want some action... I WANT TO LIVE!"

Oct 26, 2003 | 8:17 amAchieved No.2 on the Billborad Club Play Singles.No.5 on the Pop singles and No.31 on the Black Singles charts in 1978

The album version matched the 12" Single - pure "4 on the floor" kick drum. The radio single was more of a "pop heartbeat" drum line, with more emphasis on a bum - BUM - bum - (uh), bum - BUM - bum - (uh) rhythm on the tom toms. The rest of the album is progressive rock - more like Canada's Carole Pope (of High School Confidential and All Touch fame). Jim Burgess also remixed "Lotta Love" for Nicolette Larson, and Steve Buckingham produced Melissa Manchester's "Pretty Girls" as well as Dionne Warwick's "No Night So Long" album.
