Gloria was originally an Italian language song done by Umberto Tozzi and then translated to English by the late Laura Branigan. The Italian version was briefly released here in the States on Vanguard Records.
Laura Branigan later did the excellent Self Control also on Atlantic. Check out her greatest hits CD. Laura Branigan passed away in her sleep in August of 2004 from a brain aneurism.1

Nov 08, 2005 | 3:44 pmI've heard both songs. In fact I've been trying to track down the song that Gloria was sung by Laura in Italian though. I grew up hearing that song every day at Thanksgiving and New Years Eve and only a broken 8 track tape is all that's left.

This is one hell-of-a song!! I talked about LAURA BRANNIGAN on her page, so here I will talk about GLORIA! The 12" version was pretty lame as far as there was no remix version here. The other side,LIVING A LIE was recorded by an Artist called GLORIA in 1985 or so. I liked that as well. But don't remember LAURA BRANNIGAN singing it? Obviously she must have! GLORIA remains GLORIA, so a TEN on my scale from 1-10.
