I can't begin to tell you how big a CHIC fan I am - so Nile Rodgers' solo debut - had me pretty excited.
Considering that I was such a fan of the later CHIC albums - I was ready to lap it up and I sure wasn't disappointed by this first solo effort.
Every element is in place - the CHIC core (with Bernard and Tony - how can you go wrong ???), the uptempo funky grooves and the street-edge added to the mix.
The title track with the inimitable guitar work and the great beat-box rhythms... is irrisistible.YUM-YUM, the lead single is part-nursery rhyme, part-naughty anthem. I was hooked.
The rockier BEAT isn't really that far from the sound found on Debbie Harry's KooKoo.
GET HER CRAZY is very CHIC-like (I can easily imagine Alfa and Luci shouting GET HER CRAZY instead of the guys...) and so is ROCK BOTTOM.
MY LOVE SONG FOR YOU is the lone ballad and features Labelle's SARAH DASH as co-lead vocalist.
MOST DOWN with its quasi tropical beat-box rhythm is a great closer.Very modern yet so typically Nile Rodgers.
No matter how high (or how low) the album charted - it remains one of my favorite albums from the funky 80's.
Any CHIC fan would agree.
