The Pips' (minus Gladys Knight) debut album for Casablanca sees them teaming with one of the label's favorite producer Arthur G. Wright (Paul Jabara/Wright Bros Flying Machine/Rare Gems Odyssey).
This is the first of the two albums they did for the label. 1978's CALLIN' (with INSTANT FUNK and TOM MOULTON) is the other one.
Out of the seven tracks ; four of them are pure disco numbers.
AT LAST MY SEARCH IS OVER is a nice opener.Soul music with a definitely disco edge. On the mellow side but I quite enjoy this kind of soul/disco.
IF I COULD BRING BACK YESTERDAY is pure Motown meets 1977 disco.
MIDNIGHT FLIGHT TO YOUR LOVE sounds a lot like SUGAR PIE HONEY BUNCH.
SINCE I FOUND LOVE finds the guys' vocals at the forefront with a mellow disco track. It is my favorite of the bunch... Smooth vocals, a danceable laid back groove and an almost DISCO INFERNO-feel on top of it.
Since I bought the album only because I was on a Casablanca hunting trip... I quite enjoy this unheard treasure.
