MUSIC REVIEW & RECORD COLLECTOR NOTES

As much as I loved the Simon Soussan-produced albums - there is something about this album, Party Girl, that hooked me right away.

Pattie's voice is looser than ever and Bunny Sigler's production (and musical backing by Instant Funk) - takes Brooks in a brand new direction.

Side 1, with 3 top-notch disco offerings, is quite stunning.

The title track - is simply divine. It pumps and sets the tone for the rest of the journey.

MY HEART BELONGS TO YOU (with a great galloping bass by Raymond Earl) is clearly my favorite from the bunch. The smooth mellow disco groove is a real treat (plus you get two nice breaks !!!). CAUSE I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU is joyous and contagious...

Side 2 opens with WORKIN' IT OUT (from the musical THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG - penned by Marvin Hamlich and Carl Bayer Sager). The horns are great (shades of McArthur Park !!! I swear...

IF YOU ARE MY MAN could be billed as INSTANT FUNK featuring Pattie Brooks on vocals. What a great combination. Pattie funks with the best of them.

LEAP TALL BUILDINGS is a real great ballad with an almost slow disco beat. A great way to end the album.

Oh yes - the album also features GOT TU GO DISCO (the title song for the ill-fated Broadway disco musical) and I know some people hate this John Davis-penned song, but I simply LOVE IT...

The 12" version is 8 minutes long and it is much better than this 7in version but it sure brings a smile to my face.

All and all - my favorite Pattie Brooks album.

P.S. The jacket correctly lists GOT TU GO DISCO as song #3 on Side 2 - but the label lists a song called SOLD ON YOUR LOVE (written by Pattie herself and Ed Sherman) instead.
