A rare song on a very small label out of New York called Rissa-Chrissa.
This was a big hit at the club I worked at in 1981. The Saturday night DJ discovered it... and of course passed the information on to me.
I was floored!!!!! when I first heard it. It is an early rap / disco /r & b type of record. It disappeared quickly from the record shelves, that I couldn't get a copy for myself weeks later... BUT WHAT A JAM!!!!! I just came across this record 2 years ago... in M- Condition!!! Wow!!!
Do any former New York DJ's remember this record?

"The Big Throwdown" (by South Bronx) made history in the music world. It was one of the very first rap records to highlight serious political issues... (along with a few fun party lyrics). MIKE SERRETTE delivers a powerful rap that mentions topics such as dependence on foreign oil, as well as a lack of jobs because of so many imported products. These kinds of topics were unheard of in early hip-hop and rap!! "The Big Throwdown" and the lyricist (BILL MOORE)were WAY ahead of their time!!!
The tune was first released by Rissa-Chrissa Records in 1980, then picked-up and released by the legendary label, BRUNSWICK RECORDS, in 1981.
