Back in 1972 or so MANU DIBANGO gave the world SOUL MAKOSSA. A GIGANTIC hit in the very early days, it wasn't even called DISCO yet, today we know it was. AFRIQUE was a fusion-Jazz band that covered SOUL MAKOSSA in 1973, and released it. It sounds just like the original, only with better musicians. SOUL MAKOSSA started getting played all-over again. Any record that has SOUL MAKOSSA on it starts with a CLASSIC!! On my scale from 1-10, it has to get a 10 because of SOUL MAKOSSA!

This group also released material under the name The Chubukos. I assumed they were the same people because the track 'House of Rising Funk' was released by The Chubukos and its the same track.
I also suspect that these session guys also played on Charles Kynard's 'Your Mama Don't Dance' LP, which was released by Mainstream that same year.
Interesting DISCO FUNK, I simply assumed that no-one ever heard of these guys!! glad to know those facts you educated me on. Seriously, I was out in left field, wasn't aware of them. Were they any good??
You'll never be heard if you don't post...
