Former SANTA ESMERALDA lead vocalist Leroy Gomez (what latino parents call their kid LEROY??) gets his shot at the big-time with this"hidden gem" of an album. Though not a commercial success, this album really rocks!! Not everyone played this, and to this day I don't understand why that was?
The vocals were simply fantastic. Leroy could sing, I loved his voice, and I thought he would become a superstar, that shows how much I know!! He soon faded away, never heard from again. I wonder why? Whatever happened to him??
There are two really great DISCO songs on this album, that had the potential to become DISCO CLASSICS, but for a reason I can't figure out, few deejays played this record. So instead, they are "HIDDEN GEMS"?? SPANISH HARLEM is so well produced, the music so strong, and Leroy sings his heart out in it. I played it nightly. and my floors were always packed!
Then the title cut, GYPSY WOMAN was equally strong, full of fantastic breaks and percussion. Leroy again sang his heart out, and this too, packed my floors nightly for over a year!! Another 'HIDDEN GEM"!! He even had a soulful, passionate ballad called LET ME CHANGE YOUR MIND that I played as well.I have always thought, and wondered why this was it, why it wasn't pushed by Casablanca, surely they heard what I heard?? Wish I knew the answer?? This album was great! On my scale from 1-10, it gets a 10!! If it was my personal choice, I would call it a DISCO CLASSIC!!

May 03, 2008 | 10:35 pmThis is a very nice LP almost all songs are great

Yesterday I went record shopping and since I'm such a fan of Casablanca Records - I bought a ton of stuff I had forgotten about.
This album is one of them. Thanks to your review - I bought it and have jumped on the few tracks you mentioned.
Very nice indeed...
