Joe Bataan , who was of Black & Filippino descent, was one of Salsoul Record's earliest artists with the cover of Gil Scott Heron's "The Bottle" back in the mid 70's. He was also the first to coin the term Salsoul. His last name is spelled with two "A's" as in Bataan, not Batan or Battan.
Featured here is Joe Bataan's Salsoul 12 inch Disco single called "Rap O Clap O" which was essentially a mixture of Spanish and English rap with Disco and Salsa rhythms. Later releases included "Sadie."

Nov 09, 2005 | 5:59 amhey, that's 3 As in Joe Bataan's last name, not 2!
i was just talking about music with a Filipino coworker yesterday and he mentioned this guy so i just found your site. i'm gonna try to check out his music; i don't remember hearing his name mentioned along with the music i hear on the radio.

This song was released much earlier then 1979, in Jersey back in 1977 it was being played. I had a version of it in a yellow label, can't recall what it was. But it was out and played. I never thought much of it, or JOE, but he was very successful and enjoyed some fame. On my scale from 1-10, it gets a 3.
