NOTES:

Walter Gibbons took this Bettye LaVette track and made magic happen on this remix. Grab a copy and listen to the whole thing and listen to how he builds it up, tears it down and repeats all with that great emphasis on percussion.

Bettye was no new-comer as she had been around since the early sixites. Produced by Gary's Gang producer Eric Mathews and Cory Robbins of Front Page fame.

YOUR REVIEWS & COMMENTS ON Bettye LaVette

Personally, This is THE best Walter Gibbons track. Awash with blazin bongos, yet at the same time as soulful as you like & goes on & on & on at 11 minutes. Pure class. Also go for the seven minute version which again, is a great record, yet is a totally different mix.

Pure Bliss !!!
In 1978 BETTY LAVETTE reluctantly recorded "Doin' The Best That I Can," during the disco craze. To her surprise, the record became a big seller, which was played in discos around the world and is now listed with the other great disco classics.
Walter Gibbons produced an 11 minute disco mix which DJ's could use specifically for mixing other records.

A Walter Gibbons Mix

The effects used on the breakdown parts and ending with a pan were excellent!

One-shot, celebrated soul queen, celebrated mix-man, both at the top of their game: a disco legend.
