Commodore 64 Orchestra

discoCommodore 64 Orchestra are the undisputed heavyweights of 80s electro glam. The Chicago outfit is set to release their new Kraftwerk EP in 2007.

Imagine David Bowie listening to his favorite electro in his limousine. Now fast forward back to the future. Disco electro clash synthesizers tear into hard grooves with multiple Commodore 64 computers. Feathered hair, girls with legwarmers. Ray-Bans never looks so cool. The band was conceptualized by Nico Demonte of Computer Music with MOS 6510 on drums and Candy Roxx on vocals. The band’s MOS Technology 6581/8580 SID (Sound Interface Device) sound is attributed to the wide array of micro computing technology, and programmers, with the band test piloting early software releases. Early tapes written in assembly language were combined with the SID’s 64 kilobytes of RAM and sounds of the VIC-20 and Amiga 500 computer. The 1988 release of Superman and Model versions were actively being traded and swapped on the Commodore Bulletin Board Systems (BBS). With over 30 million computers sold, the C64 is the most popular computer of the 1980’s, placing Nico among the 80s fashion and trend setting electro clash bands Kraftwerk, Yaz, Giorgio Moroder, Donna Summer, Italo Disco, Thomas Dolby, Pet Shop Boys, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Roxy Music, Duran Duran, Gary Numan, and the Eurythmics.

The band plans to release the Model on MP3 Death sometime in October 2006. The last record was Computer Love in 2004, Computers and Humans (2000), Robots (1995), Superman (1988), and the cult classic release Commodore 64 (1982).

In other news, The Vintage Computer Festival has chosen Commodore 64 Orchestra to compose on the Parallel Commodore 64 Supercomputer for its disco symphony no. 1 series. The Vintage Computer Festival seeks to "promote the preservation of "obsolete" computers.

The Vintage Computer Festival has selected Commodore 64 Orchestra (www.commodore64orchestra.com) to be the first to compose on the historic Commodore 64 Parallel Super-Computer. The project is slated for completion for exhibition at VCF 6.0, where the 20th anniversary of the Commodore 64 will be celebrated. The first prototype will utilize 16 Commodore 64 machines in sync with a musical application that Commodore 64 Orchestra will program to write its Disco Symphony No 1. series inspired by Kraftwerk, Yaz, Giorgio Moroder, Donna Summer, and Italo Disco classics. Founder Nico of the Commodore 64 Orchestra states that "We are pleased to have been chosen to compose on the world's first Commodore 64 Parallel Super-Computer and would like to thank The Vintage Computer Festival for their support and vision." The Vintage Computer Festival is an international event that celebrates the history of computing. The mission of the Vintage Computer Festival is to promote the preservation of "obsolete" computers by offering people a chance to experience the technologies, people and stories that embody the remarkable tale of the computer revolution. www.commodore64orchestra.com
