b. June 21, 1932 - November 24, 2001

 

O.C. Smith O.C. Smith was born 1932 in Mansfield, LA. Died 11/24/2001 in Los Angeles CA of a heart attack. Best known for hits "Hickory Holler's Tramp",(1968) "Little Green Apples"(1968, which was awarded a Grammy in 1969) & "La La Peace Song" (1974), which received quite a bit of play in the Discos.

    It makes me chuckle that on some names on this section, there are tons of comments about some artists who while being very accomplished in their own right, aren't as BIG, or IMPORTANT as the BIG AND IMPORTANT. On their sites, very little chatter?? Now I am not saying that O.C. SMITH was terribly BIG, in fact in the over-all timespan of DISCO, O.C. SMITH was only a few brief minutes. But what WAS BIG, was LA,LA,LA THE PEACE SONG!! Don't try to tell me no-one played this record! Honey Please! There was about a 10-to-14 month span, when it was so popular, and in such demand, that you HAD to play it! So, again I am uncertain as to why I, am the FIRST one making a comment about O.C. SMITH. WAKE-UP, he deserves better. god bless you.
