New York Disco DJ (b. 1953 - Present)
Anthony Cintorino [b: 1953 - present]
Let me introduce myself as one of the original DJs of the 70ís, from the beginning Iíve been spinning 45ís to 12 inch singles at clubs such as the Monestery and Elephas to hOllywood, Copacabana, Soundmachine, Lemontree, 12West to the China Club.
The Monestery in Sunnyside Queens, NY. I worked with Paul Cassella and Jenny Costa. Those days disco was just starting to make itís way into the clubs and i loved every minute of it. Spinning 45s, you had to be quick to make your mix. That was a challenge for all the djs at that time. There was also my method, mixing by melody, or dub mixing which is only playing dub versions into the vocal mix of the song. The birth of the 12 inch such as "Ten Percent" and "Turn The Beat Around" broke down mixing barriers and made it easier for djs to make long mixes.
From the Monestery I went to Hollywood and Soundmachine to Elephas. From 1975 ń 81 when i worked at Hollywood, NY I also received DJ of the year award in 1976. The city was fresh with excitement with new creative music. I worked with Tony Gio and the famous and one and only Richie Kazcar (the original DJ of Studio 54). That was when music was new.
Elephas: Bayside Queens 1975; I worked with Michael Hacker. We had a great crowd. At that time the music was great to play because all of the new songs were overwhelming to us djs and we couldnít wait to play the next new song. I am also one of the original members of the New York Record Pool started by David Mancuso of The Loft. Still have my membership card.
