Sep 11, 11 | 9:02 pmI will always remember and love The Sylvers. I remember Hot-line and Boogie Fever when I was 7 years old! Foster was soo cute when I was 7, but WOW!! Edmond is soooo GOURGEOUS, now that I'm an adult. The intire family seems to have very sweet spirts as I watched them on Unsung. They are such a spiritual, good looking, and talented famiy. May God bless Rickey and Foster, and the rest of the family. Edmond is good hands with our Lord, Jesus Christ! May God continue to bless the Sylvers family and their mother for all of her hard work in helping her children to be who they are! Thank God for the Sylvers!!!!

Are you a member of TheNewSylversMessageBoard? Angie is on there from time to time chatting with us. There is a radio interview made by Foster,Angie and Pat. You need to hear it. They talk about their upcoming Gospel music. I can't wait. You be Blessed and thanks for sharing your story...

Aug 02, 10 | 6:19 pmI also grew up Listening to The Sylvers, and had the pleasure of meeting them ,when they moved to my neighborhood in Palos Verdes. They went to my brothers school for a very short time. But then moved to a different school in the same erea. My best friend came to my house one day,and said I know where they live , come on lets go see. So, we did. We walked to their house thinking, how cool was this. Nervouse as heck, but both vey excited. We saw them playing basketbal in front of their house, and Foster playing touch football with his friend ,and neighbors. We said, WOW ! their normal just playing ,and having fun like we would. So i asked if i coul play, and they said, sure come on. I had a blast. He ,and his family were sooo much fun.So we became friends. And their Mom was the sweetest Mom. We did fun things kids did. Like throwing water ballons at passing cars, or playing hide ,and seek.Basketball ,and touch football was what we seemed to play most of the time. An Foster was a great Quarterback, and Reciever.. And was most of the time too fast for me too catch, and I was Fast back then. But he was a great friend, as his sisters were too.His youngest brother Christopher, and nephew Micheal were the sweetest, cutest. They all were very well mannered.Very, Very, polite never rude,or disrespectful.I was very sad when he told me Christopher Passed at 18 years old.RIP. And your with your brother Edmond, and with the Lord, and God and my husband.
I would see Edmond here ,and their . Only when they all played a family game of basketball. He seemed very quite, but again very polite to me.
I remember one time being invited into their garage while they practiced their songs, and then it all came back to me. Wow they are sooo normal, like to have fun just like me, but yet are a singing family. Very well known, and Im standing in their garage watching them do their thing. Playing the music i love listening too. On the radio even. OMG. I am sooo lucky.. And I Was.
I still know the Family. They are still all Very Nice, Sweet Family. Foster has been very insprirational to me. He is a Very Good Friend, and A Man of God.They All Love The Lord. Many Blessing to you, and Your Family. Sylvers. And I Love You All. Thank You for the Oldies, But am Waiting for The New Stuff To Come..Look on Utube for Foster's, Angie's and Pat's new song on utube. Love it guy's. Praise God, for you guy's. Keep it coming.

Jul 21, 10 | 5:31 pmI am truly sadden to hear about Edmunds passing. May his music continue to live on and to be a blessing to others. The Sylvers were such a beautiful family with beautiful spirits that matched.
I was a fan when I was about 13 years old. Edmund and Ricky were my favorite. I was a year younger than Ricky. I remember drawing their pictures and placing them on my wall. I loved the songs "How Love Hurts" and " I Wish That I Could Talk To You".
Watching youtube has allow me to make up for some of the perfomances I missed. I watched the Soul Train and I can say The Sylvers were by far the best performers out of the acts. They had excellent showmanship. I loved the Jackson Five but on the Soul Train The Sylvers were the best.
The Sylvers were a family were everyone could sing and sing they did. May God continue to place beautiful music in their souls and spirits. And like Job in the bible, God can give you double for you troubles and restore. I know our Lord has so much more wonderful blessings in store for this beautiful family that has been a blessings to so many. Peace and continued blessings to the Lord's beautiful family.

Dec 14, 09 | 6:09 amI have known the Sylvers just now.
I am Searching for music albums that have god lyrical content and were constructive.
It was then I found The Sylvers and saw that they really were concerned not to offend God in their music.
I liked very much the song "Touch Me Jesus". I want to make a jam skating choreograph with this song.
I hope the group can come back and sing gospel songs.
Edmond, see you in heaven!

-
Nov 03, 08 | 9:24 pmWow. What a talented group! Like most 10/11 year olds in the 1975, I loved their hits. It was in 1978 that I got hooked on their album that spawned "Don't Stop Get Off" and "Dance with Me." Foster played a mean bass! He also worked under Leon at Solar playing bass for other acts. We love you Sylvers!

Aug 21, 08 | 1:31 pmHi Clayton:
Thank you for answering my questions regarding Edmund Sylvers. I have a couple more questions, if you don't mind. How long did you know Edmund? Are you a member of The New Sylvers Message Board on yahoo? How tall was Edmund and what was his personality like? Where did he work in VA? Did he drive a fork lift? Was he happy with his life when you knew him?
Sincerely,
Miriam :)

Aug 18, 08 | 9:58 amI had the televison on listening to music. Boogie Fever started playing. I ran out of the kitchen to listen. As I was listening the station I was on was showing information about the Sylvers. I was thrilled because I was interested in knowing what had happened to my favorite guy Edmund. As the song played I kept wishing they would show something. And then it came on the screen. In 2005 Edmund Sylvers passed away at the age of 47 from Lung Cancer. I think at that moment in time my young adult life flashed in front of my eyes. I could not believe what I was seeing. I can not believe he has been gone for 3 years and I didn't know. Not that he was a personal friend of mine, but he was a friend. He and his family gave me so many hours of joy through their music. Edmund, I am so sorry to hear that the world lost such a wonderful person. I lost my dad the same year in December to Lung Cancer. May God bless you and keep you in his company. And I pray that you are resting in peace.
-
Jun 24, 08 | 1:31 pmMiriam I believe Edmund moved to Richmond to work with his brother Leon who wound up in VA Beach for a while.
The picture was taken in front of W. Grace Street. Good call.
-
May 27, 08 | 5:19 pmHey Clayton:
I like the photo of you and Edmund and have a couple of questions? Was it taken when he lived on Bradley Pines Circle? or on W Grace Street? Did he ever tell you what happened that caused him to move from CA to VA and never go back?
Sincerely,
Miriam :)

May 01, 08 | 12:30 pmI'm just now discovering about Edmund's death! How unfortunate and seemingly unfair!!! The Sylvers were and still are to date, a wonderful and talented family! May God continue to be with you all through your loss. I hope you all will be able to smile again, and soon and hopefully put out some more major hits! After all, you sure have it in you!!!!!
-
Mar 25, 08 | 9:43 amThis is such sad news. I was looking to see what this talented family was doing. I didn't know that Edmund passed.
I remember when about 14 or 15 yrs old and I wrote to Edmund. He wrote back. I still have the letter in my album cover.

Jul 11, 07 | 4:18 pmIn 1976 I was 11 years old. A friend I went to school with asked if I wanted to join their group for the upcoming City Talent contest... We chose the song Cotton Candy and for 2 months leading up to the contest we watched hours of beta-max tapes of The Sylvers performances on Soul Train and American Bandstand! Although the entire family could really dance it was Edmunds fluidity that I was drawn to and wanted to move with that same efortless style and flash. We took second place but performed in malls all over the west coast for the next 2 years performing The Sylvers music. We will miss our inspiration. Thank you Edmund

Jun 10, 07 | 4:18 amThanks for the correction on the photo Clayton. The description will be updated later today.
-
Jun 10, 07 | 2:49 amPlease correct the entry regarding the photograph. That is DEFINITELY not a picture of James and Edmund, that is a picture Edmund and myself in front of his apartment in Richmond, VA prior to his passing. The title should state Edmund and a Sylvers fan. The picture is from 1999.

Jun 10, 06 | 11:39 amI just found out Edmund was gone 2 years after his death. I am really saddened. I had a major crush on Foster and went to all of their concerts; I even got pass security and went backstage to meet them. At 8 years old, I was a groupie--lol. My friend even caught the bus to Palos Verdes to go to their house--the Sylver's welcomed them and played with my friends in their pool. I get the impression the Sylvers were very nice people. You have never heard about any of them in any scandals. It's better on the other side anyway...I will see him and others over there!
-
Dec 28, 05 | 9:06 amI Wish That I Could Talk To You & Misdemeanor (Foster)...that's how far back my memories with the Sylvers go, and that's waaay back. AND I had the biggest crush on Edmund during the Boogie Fever years. :)
RIP Edmund.
-
Nov 01, 05 | 4:34 amDeep words from all aboard!

Oct 16, 05 | 8:04 pmAhh the Sylvers. I loved Boogie Fever.
I had to comment here after reading the post by Diane. You dated Edmund before you became a Christian. I'm not sure how that has bearing on dating him (the fact that you're a Christian, that is). I just found it a curious thing to say. I have nothing against Christianity. I'm a Christian myself, but I wondered if there was a reason you'd not have dated him after having become a Christian?
I took my baby too the pizza parlor
to get a bite to eat yeahhh
I put some money in the jukebox for her
You know she ate her pizza dancing to the beat
She's got the Boogie Fever
She likes to boogie down
Boogie Fever
I think it's going around
Love that song. :-) Thanks for blessing us with it Edmund Sylvers. I hope you're teaching the angels some brand new songs in heaven. God bless you and your family.

May 30, 04 | 3:22 amI thank God for not only Edmund's life but the lives of his sisters and brothers as well.
They brought joy to millions of people with their music and talent.
There is nothing I love more than playing Boogie Fever, Hotline, High School Dance, Free Style, and many of the hits that they had in my Miata with the top down. People at lights, walking on the sidewalks hear it and start smiling and dancing.
Edmund's solo album "Have You Heard" is still one of my favorite albums to date. If you can get your hands on a copy listen to it. Songs like the Beauty of Nature, Time, and You Went Away are the most beautiful lyrics that you will ever hear.

May 11, 04 | 10:25 pmI KNEW EDMUND, I MET HIM WHEN I LIVED IN LONG BEACH (1985), IT SADDEN TO HEARD THAT HE HAD BEEN ILL, BUT WHAT WAS SO STRANGE WAS THE DAY HE PASSED I HAD AN URGE TO CONTACT HIS BROTHER, LEON. GOD BLESS HIM.... I TO NOW LIVE IN VA

I had to be about 6 or 7 years old during the '70s of course. I remember watching them when they were on Soul Train, and I distinctly remember the episode when they were rocking the silver (almost space-like) suits. I was like wow! It seemed like it was a hundred of them on the stage, and I was mezmerized, by the singing, dancing, outfits, and those 'HUGE' afros, lol.
However, as I got older, and the '70s passed... early '80s I kind of lost track of them, with so many other groups coming forth and such. The Jacksons were kind of still on top, Michael was doing his thing, becoming a star. Switch was out there, then DeBarge came on the scene. I never heard much about the Sylvers anymore. But I was so delighted when I realized Unsung was doing the special on them. I really enjoyed it, and it renewed my interest, helped me to see the family up close and learn their story. It was a really special episode, and I admire and respect them even more, especially Leon, knowing all they had to go through with tough times and all. You never know what people endure, because it's all glitz and glamour when they're on stage. Yet we all have a 'background' story.
I was horrified at Olympia's tragic experience... I pray and wish her well. I also did not realize they had another sibling who had passed besides Edmund. Speaking of Edmund, I was also shocked that he had passed. I was watching the episode, and as they are showing the other siblings giving mini interviews, and I am just unaware, waiting and hoping they show him reminiscing about their career. Not until the end, when they briefly say, he passed. I was so saddened and shocked!
I read on youtube and other comment boards, and I agree with others that they really should have made The Sylvers a 2-3 part special. They did that with Phyllis Hyman, and her special was at least 3-4 parts. It's just too much information to cram into one hour! Anyway, such a beautiful and talented family, may God continue to bless and keep you all!
