Tony Thompson drummer for Chic passed away in Los Angeles on November 12, 2003 from renal cell cancer. Thompson, who was born in New York, played on all the Chic hits. When Edwards and Rodgers began working with other artists, Thompson went along and was the drummer for Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, Debbie Harry, Madonna and others.

Chic was a disco group that didn't sound to me like a disco group and Tony was a big reason for that, He didn't ride the hi-hat like a lot of the disco-era drummers did; he just played the hell out of the drums.
