Bebu Silvetti aka Silvetti (b. March 27, 1944 - d. July 5, 2003)
(Pianist, composer, arranger and producer) Best known for the 1976 instrumental Disco hit "Spring Rain. Silvetti passed away from lung cancer. In 1997 Bebu Silvetti produced a C.D. for a Brazilian vocalist called Roberto Carlos.

Bebu Silvetti: March 27, 1944 - July 5, 2003
Bebu Silvetti was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since he was a little kid, he knew clearly what he wanted to do: devote his life to music. At age 15 he formed his first Jazz Trio, and at 18 he left on a cargo ship for Barcelona, Spain. There he worked in several Jazz Clubs and met the love of his life: Sylvia. He came to the US, then Mexico where he started doing some jingles, and struggling to launch his carreer as a composer and arranger.
Bebu went back to Spain where he wrote "Spring Rain" and life changed. He arranged, composed and conducted LP's for Rocio Durcal, Rocio Jurado, Raphael, Daniela Romo, Pandora. Created original scores for several TV Series in Mexico, and finally started producing for his own company "NGS" and for others, reaching the peak of his carreer when working with Placido Domingo for whom he produced 3 albums, Luis Miguel, Vikki Carr, Vic Damone and Engelbert Humperdinck. He was the best when arranging strings.

Bebu Silvetti was born March 27th, 1944 near Buenos Aires, Argentina.
He started his piano education at the young age of 6. During his teenage years he formed his own jazz quartet and a few other musical groups. At 21 Bebu left Argentina to go to Spain where he stayed a few years working as a pianist at some of the most popular jazz clubs of the time. In the early 70's he moved to Mexico and started arranging and composing. Upon his return to Spain some years later, he recorded his first album, which contained his mega hit "Spring Rain". Other albums followed. Silvetti returned to Mexico in the late 70's, he continued arranging, composing and producing mostly for other artists.
During his long and prolific career, he produced, arranged, and composed for a wide variety of Latin and International artists, including: Placido Domingo, Luis Miguel, Paul Anka, Engelbert Humperdinck, Vikki Carr, Marco Antonio Solis...the list is endless.
Bebu was the recipient of the Grammy, Billboard and many other awards throughout his lifetime.
Bebu Silvetti passed away in July of 2003 from respiratory failure caused by complications from his cancer treatment.

And the strange thing is whenever I think of Spring that song comes to mind with the Salsoul label spinning around.

Spring Rain is a beautiful song! God Bless! I don't know why I call it the "Breck shampoo commercial song"

I know Frankie Crocker used to play it on rotation. That was when he was going through a European thing with Cerrone, Gino Soccio, Donna Summers etc. It was sort of an additional signature song.
I remember I used to mix "Spring Rain" with Barabas' "Mellow Blow." I used to love that song it was a signature Hustle Record... That was if you really knew how to Hustle, otherwise sit down. RIP SILVETTI
Silvetti... may be know for "Spring Rain" but to me he is more than that. He truly loved music and expressed every musical note with a gentle and colorful and mysterious touch. I learned a lot from his music and the arrangements he made.He has departed earth but his soul has stayed to give "a concert to the stars"
To his daughter I met Bebu Silvetti thru Carlos Greco and your daddy was a great friend. I spoke with him shortly after your mom passed and he was extremely sad. He expressed he would fight against cancer and had asked the doctor to remove his entire lung and was feeling well, he stated he wasn't feeling sick at all. I am still in shock and really am sorry I never got to see him again. I have wonderful memories of a tru gentleman and gracious, talented humble man.
