A Wonderful Entertainer, A Tragic Life. . . . . It's Sad To See That This Type Of Tragedy Happens Over And Over To Superb Entertainers. What Is It That We As Human Beings Don't Get? Negative Behavior Will Always Result In Self Destruction.

While most don't like to acknowledge Otis Williams there would be no Temptations (Elgins) without Otis. Yes, the true Temptations were David / Eddie / Paul / Otis And The Incredible Melvin Franklin but it was Otis that kept things together through thick and thin.

The original Tempt's are one of those rarities, like a M. Jordan or a Mickey Mantle.

You simply will only see that once in your life.

Walk Away From Love....

From the Temptations to a solo artist with hit records on his resume told a different story.

As a kid growing up in Jersey, I loved the Motown sound. My favorite artist was Stevie Wonder, my favorite group, THE TEMPTATIONS. The main vocalist was David Ruffin. He had a SOUL that came out whenever he sang. But Eddie Kendricks was my favorite TEMPTATION, until one night in 1982, David Ruffin came into TUTTLE'S, the club I was spinning at. It was too small to have live acts, he was there for the food. He was alone, so I let my second take over and I sat down and bought David dinner, He had the best piece of meat that TUTTLE'S offered, a sixteen ounce Filet Mingion. It cost me over twenty dollars just for that steak, and that was as a favor to me!! Our hour-long conversation was worth two hundred times that amount. He reflected on his early years, on MOTOWN and his problems with some of the TEMPTATIONS. He went on and on about how R&B would never die like DISCO did. It was a BLACK thing he would tell me. I wonder how he would feel today about that, with BLACK music now predominately RAP??? By the time David was eating his dessert, BANANAS FOSTER, he was explaining where he got his soul, guess, CHURCH!!! I will always treasure that dinner, I haven't forgotten it, and never will. God Bless you David, we miss you.
