I remember watching a music video show in about 76 here in Australia (Countdown for you aussies out there). On comes this mini dynamo- my first glimpse of Vicki-Sue. In the late 90s, she was brought to Oz as part of Disco package tour. There she was, performing the Turn the Beat Around for the upteenth time. She belted it out like she was singing for the first time. Amazing, such energy, versitlity and style. Soon she was gone.

Yes, I agree with the other poster. Where are the albums, RCA? These are some of the most significant recordings of Disco era.

Love to You Vicki-Sue, every time I think of how I got be in love with Disco, I think of you.

God Bless.

I met this girl in of all places, Birmingham, Alabama. She did a concert at a club called Flanigans. (part of the Big Daddy's chain)
She was a lil thing, but O boy could she flat out sing!!
See ya on the dance floor in the sky!
Turning it all around.

I started dj'ying in high school in 82 and her 12inch release "Hot Summer Night" on Prelude was a crowd favorite every weekend @ our dances. What a voice, what a voice, thank you Vicki !

I have a great story to share about Vicki Sue Robinson. I used to produce and host a cable TV show in L.A. in the 90's. I attended/covered a big disco AIDS fundraiser hosted by Nell Carter (very sweet - RIP!) and featured live performances by Evelyn "Champagne" King (terrific!) and Vicki Sue Robinson. Needless to say, I was in disco heaven! I was able to interview all of the divas backstage and they were all terrific, Vicki Sue in particular. She was SOOOO sweet and we chatted like old friends, even though I had never met her before. Off camera we continued chatting, she autographed a photo for me (which I still cherish) and I mentioned to her that I'm HIV+. She was SO supportive and wonderful, and said "Honey, you're going to be just fine!" I was so shocked and saddened when I heard about her death. Vicki Sue, you're right - I am just find! Rest in peace and keep turning that beat around!

Listen guys, VICKI SUE ROBINSON had been around the blocks many times before you were walking. She had plenty of records that deejays played, it wasn't just one song. What made her special was watching her magic on stage. In the early 70's, she was performing TURN THE BEAT AROUND in her club act. She covered a lot of R&B girl vocals, and the latest music played in DISCOS. She got excellent response to every thing she played. But soon it was TURN THE BEAT AROUND, still without a record deal that high-lighted her sets. It took at least a year, maybe 18 months before she was signed to a record deal. You had to prove to LABELS that you had a following in those days. Well she quickly proved her value. Those exceptional vocals mixed with that BEAT, then you turned it around. HIT!!! God Bless you Vickie!!
