Eddie Rivera

New York Disco DJ and founder of IDRC Record Pool (b. 19?? - d. 19??)

Eddie Rivera Eddie Rivera (19??-19??)
(DJ and record pool founder) Eddie was the founder of the International Disco Record Center (IDRC) record pool in New York.

Eddie was a DJ during the mid 1970s at a club in New York called The Cork and Bottle and originally a member of the New York Record Pool, which was run by David Mancuso. It was at Mancuso's pool where Eddie wanted to branch out to other styles of dance music such as Latin and dismissed by Mancuso.

Upon his departure, Eddie Rivera, who was of Puerto Rican descent, went on to form his own record pool called The International Record Center, which catered to a largely Hispanic DJ base. I.D.R.C. went on to become a very influential gathering place for New York's top DJs such as John Morales, Ray "Pinky" Velazquez and others.

The following photo of Eddie Rivera was submitted by Ms New Yorka Renee.

I want to thank IDRC and Eddie for all the music! All my 12" records came thru you. Without those records and visits to Circus Circus, Paradise Garage, The Hilton Hotel, 54, Infinity, Roseland Ballroom, Pinky DJ, skating with Casablanca Records and artists in Brooklyn, 12West (we named our club in Dayton 1470 West, it lasted 20+ years).
What a magic time.

RIP

Way back in the day, Eddie Rivera did not let a mobile deejay join the pool, he told me to get a job, I did. He still didn't let me in. So I ended up joining the POCONO Record Pool. As the years passed, I went to Miami, and worked with Bo Crane and the Florida Record pool. Here is where I got to know Eddie, a warm and gentle soul. He explained to me, what a privilege it was to belong to IDRC. I wasn't ready he explained in a way that I related to. Never a grudge, we became associates and enjoyed a relationship for many years. I was sorry to hear of his passing, I know he will be missed. God Bless!

I met Eddie back in the IDRC days through Louie Gorbea and my parents. They used to all hang out together. One time at a IDRC event for KISS-FM, Evelyn "Champagne" King used my parent's van for her dressing room. I remember coming back to NY and asking Eddie for a start in the business and he told me that I had already be playing. Back then I was 21 and didn't know any better. Although I was surprised at his answer, I learned to understand later on. A cool thing that evening was that Lisa-Lisa happened to be hanging out there, and if anyone who's been at Eddie's house should remember Arc, that big beautiful dog he had. RIP Eddie, you're never forgotten. -Frankie

We never got to truly get to know this great man i am reading about and learning about for the first time it seems. It is great to know that a great man had come from my family roots. I wish we could have had a chance to sit down and talk about the family. Your nephews son, daughters and grandchildren would have loved to meet you.

Hello all... nice to see that my uncle was well loved. Many respects. I missed my uncle he passed very young. He was my mothers brother. Me and my brothers used to hangout at his apt. In the l.e.s with grandma and the two dogs noah and arc very big white beautiful dogs we used to go there every weekend and when we were kids he would always buy us toys my uncle was cool. Very humble.that's when he worked for 92ktu with al bandero and all the crazy guys there. As I grew up aroud tio I went club hoppin with v.I.ps to all the clubs from the roxys to the underground and even having promotional nights at his apt. It was cool cuz ppl used 2 ask me what the hell was I doing there and I used 2 tell them this my uncles house and they backed down lol well that's enuff of the memoirz any info on familys hit me up.
