Eddie Rivera
New York Disco DJ and founder of IDRC Record Pool (b. 19?? - d. 19??)
Eddie Rivera (19??-19??)
(DJ and record pool founder) Eddie was the founder of the International Disco Record Center (IDRC) record pool in New York.
Eddie Rivera was a Disco DJ during the mid 1970s at a club in New York called The Cork and Bottle and originally a member of the New York Record Pool, which was run by David Mancuso. It was at Mancuso's pool where Eddie wanted to branch out to other styles of dance music such as Latin and dismissed by Mancuso.
Upon his departure, Eddie Rivera, who was of Puerto Rican descent, went on to form his own record pool called The International Record Center, which catered to a largely Hispanic DJ base. I.D.R.C. went on to become a very influential gathering place for New York's top DJs such as John Morales, Ray "Pinky" Velazquez and others.
The following photo of Eddie Rivera was submitted by Ms New Yorka Renee.

Jun 03, 11 | 11:27 pmEddie Rivera touched so many dee jays, artists and people who became fans. I'm one of them yet I was not a member of the pool, but I remember going to many clubs where he played and had the pleasure of meeting him and Dennis and Jamie back in the days.
I remember the 98.7 Kiss summer concerts with Eddie, D.J.Lance and crew. Those were the days. I still have an old poster of Eddie's 98.7 Kiss party from 1982 and other posters with Eddie. Anyone want copies just give me a call 718-907-0751 or
dusnil@optonline.Net
Trying to get in touch with Dennis and Jamie and the other members I have met over the years to see if they are still spinning or to hear how they are doing. D.J. Angel, Carlos Jimenez, Luie Rivera, Danny Rodriguez, Curt Torres, DJ Steve, DJ Dwaine, vinyljunkie, Frankie Cruz and others. Peace and blessing to Eddie Rivera and IDRC.

Oct 28, 10 | 6:58 pmI was humbled by the loss of Eddie Rivera. I was a young up and comming New York DJ at the time at Club El Morrocco (The Old Zebra Club) on 54th & 2nd in 1992 and my friend DJ Sean James intoduced me to Eddie at an industry night party and it was all good from there. After i became a member of RPBC, i attended the weekly industry night parties. I met the up and comming & established artists, producers, promoters and dj's. The frendships and connections i've made at RPBC could not be beat. Best thing of all was the vibe at the pool. We were all family. Thanks to Eddie's influence & that of my mentor The Legendary DJ Raoul Soto (B'way 96, Gothem West, Northmore St. High, The Latin Quater @ 47th & B'way, etc). I developed my musical tastes and expanded my crowd base & i started my own highly successful mixed tape company, "Angel's Productions" From 1982 to 1995 in Spanish Harlem, "El Barrio". With the breakout of freestyle & house music, my music career took off. I played at The Latin Quater @ 47th Street, The New Manila, El Morocco, Club Deco, The South Street Seaport, The Copaabana @ 57th Street, Club Exit, The Sound Factory Bar, Club 2ii's, Nells, The Winners Palace (Bronx NY), Cats (Bronx NY) & the Circle Club (Bronx NY) and finally at the Country Club at East 86th street. I am in debt to Eddie Rivera for his open door policy and the friends & contacts i've made thru him and his record pool RPBC. You are a true legend in the industry. Miss you dude, may you keep resting in peace for eternity.

May 22, 10 | 12:14 pmR.I.P. TO A MENTOR, FRIEND, BROTHER, INSPIRATION AND TO THE ONE THAT GAVE ME MY FIRST BREAK AND BROKE IT DOWN TO ME WHEN I FIRST KNOCKED ON THE DOOR AT 18TH ST & BROADWAY TO JOIN THE POOL AND EDDIE WITH A SMILE IN HIS FACE LET ME INSIDE AND EXPLAINED THAT I HAD TO BE A WORKING DJ.
SO I WENT DOOR TO DOOR TO ALL THE CLUBS TO AUDITION AND WITH MIXED CASSETTES AND GOT MY FIRST GIG AT THE KASBAH CLUB IN QUEENS NY BY KENNEDY AIRPORT WHICH GAVE ME MY LETTER HEAD WITH THE RAISED SEAL TO JOIN THE POOL. EDDIE RIVERA RECEIVED ME WITH OPEN ARMS AND FROM THAT POINT ON I WAS MADE TO FEEL LIKE I WAS A PART OF THIS FAMILY, STAYING DOWN AT THE POOL FOR DAYS AT A TIME, DOING ALL THE 98.7 KISS FM SUMMER CLEAN UP CONCERTS, AND SCHOOL CONCERTS, JOINED THE FEEDBACK COMMITTEE, AND HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE WHICH I CANT EVER FORGET... LOVE YOU ALWAYS AND I KNOW THAT YOU WOULD BE SOOO PROUD OF EVERYONE RIGHT NOW... LOVE ALL YOU GUYS HERE AND IF YOU WANT TO RECONNECT:

Very humble.that's when he worked for 92ktu with al bandero and all the crazy guys there. As I grew up aroud tio I went club hoppin with v.I.ps to all the clubs from the roxys to the underground and even having promotional nights at his apt. It was cool cuz ppl used 2 ask me what the hell was I doing there and I used 2 tell them this my uncles house and they backed down lol well that's enuff of the memoirz any info on familys hit me up.

Mar 04, 08 | 3:07 amI met Eddie back in the IDRC days through Louie Gorbea and my parents. They used to all hang out together. One time at a IDRC event for KISS-FM, Evelyn "Champagne" King used my parent's van for her dressing room. I remember coming back to NY and asking Eddie for a start in the business and he told me that I had already be playing. Back then I was 21 and didn't know any better. Although I was surprised at his answer, I learned to understand later on. A cool thing that evening was that Lisa-Lisa happened to be hanging out there, and if anyone who's been at Eddie's house should remember Arc, that big beautiful dog he had. RIP Eddie, you're never forgotten. -Frankie

Feb 23, 08 | 8:02 amWay back in the day, Eddie Rivera did not let a mobile deejay join the pool, he told me to get a job, I did. He still didn't let me in. So I ended up joining the POCONO Record Pool. As the years passed, I went to Miami, and worked with Bo Crane and the Florida Record pool. Here is where I got to know Eddie, a warm and gentle soul. He explained to me, what a privilege it was to belong to IDRC. I wasn't ready he explained in a way that I related to. Never a grudge, we became associates and enjoyed a relationship for many years. I was sorry to hear of his passing, I know he will be missed. God Bless!
