YOUR COMMENTS ON Eddie Hazel

Eddie Hazel, one of the most heart-felt guitar players to ever bless our ears with sound. I think he's the only one who's ever come close to surpassing jimi hendrix. Eddie's 1977 albulm, " Game, Dames, and Guitar Thangs" is so damn funky, it'll put the stomp back in your foot. I always felt that he never got the recognition that he deserved, so its good to see his name on this page. Nice work. EDDIE "MAGGOT BRAIN" HAZEL

Eddie Hazel 4/10/'50-12/23/'92 RIP Eddie is the greatest funk guitarist of all time . He took funk to a level that nobody else could . His distinctive screams , that dirty fuzz-box sound , his crazy delay effects , the energy he put into every note , his sound is so unique . Best known for his 1970 composition " Maggot Brain " he worked on many parliament/funkadelic projects , released a solo album , also played with the Temptations , his brothers band Krunchy , as well as the P-Funk Allstars and some studio work with various bandmembers , etc. I have found his lesser known material to be worth the price several times over . I know Eddie's favorite guitar was a '54 strat , but that he also played a Les Paul , and I suspect that he played other guitars , not exactly sure . His life wasn't an easy one , from what I have read , he grew up poor , was a drug addict most of his life , did time , etc. , however he never lost his edge , it only got sharper . If you enjoy the song maggot brain then I implore you to buy "Games, Dames , and Guitar Thangs" , RIP , "Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On" , and Axiom Funk "Funkcronomicon" . You will not be dissapointed , trust me . Even though I paid $50 each for "Games" and RIP on cd , it's well worth it . As long as we can listen to Eddie Hazel and feel his energy , passion , and pain , then he really isn't completely gone , his spirit lives on through his music . REST IN PEACE EDDIE HAZEL

Just recently (in November 2004) I saw "Games, Dames and Guitar Thangs" on CD, recently re-released by Rhino Records.

Nobody captured raw emotion like Eddie did. Only he, Hendrix, and David Gilmour can leave me speechless after listening to them play. He is very underated and it is sad because he had a rough life, though Hendrix did too. It's also wrong the way that George treated him. It is said that Eddie died pennyless and in extremely poor health. Its hard to imagine this, but if you listen to Maggot Brain, We Three, or Pray My Soul, which he recorded with Axiom Funk right before he passed, you can feel a life of pain. I have nearly every recording Eddie made, and I listen to at least one of them every day. He wrote nearly every memorable p-funk riff and damn, nobody can put more emotion into a solo. Michael Hampton was good, but he was no Eddie. I could write a book on Eddie Hazel so I'll stop here. I just wish more people were exposed to him. May the funk be with you.

I've listened some of Eddie Hazel guitar works and indeed he's the only 'challenger' of Jimi Hendrix.
From Eddie Hazel work , check out for Maggot Brain, also Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On, Games , Dames and Guitar Thangs, Rest In Peace LP
I'm interested to get live concerts of Eddie Hazel (videos or mp3's)
Can somebody help me?

I did not know that Eddie died. This is the first time that I visit this site.
My friends from Philly have pictures of Eddie, Fuzzie, Raymond, and George Clinton when they were the Parliament for Jersey.
My girlfriend Diane was in love with Eddie and he liked her. I hate to break the news to her that he died.

Thank you for sharing

Hello everyone, I am Eddie Hazel's widow, Brenda Hazel. I am not understanding why someone is callilng themselves "Eddie Hazel's" brother with a band named "Krunchy. First off, Eddie did not have a brother who played anything, second off the the two brothers he had are not musically inclined in anyway, one brother has passed on, who lived in NY. However, they both were very supportive of their brother, Eddie in everyway. So the Krunchy Band and Eddie Hazel's brother is a LIE! I should know, I am Eddie Hazel's Wife. Eddie never had a brother who played with a band, EVER.

Thanks and God Bless. The truth shall set you free!

Hey babygirl53. I don't mean to bust your sista's bubble. But Eddie had a wife. I met Eddie in 1971, we later married. Tell your sister that she was not the only woman who was in love with my beloved husband. Women from everywhere were in love with him. (Eddie and I certainly had our difficult times regarding the long list of women who were in love with him, your sister was obviously one of the many. So tell her to get over it. She was just another lady who got "SPRUNG" by my husband, Eddie Hazel. He was very good at that; I understood this and dealt with this for many years, the women that is! Again there were thousands of them from everywhere who loved. If your sister felt that he was madly in love with her, she is giving herself waaaaaaaay too much credit dear.

God Bless.

Eddie spent his last year w/ me and my family on East Second Street. I spent every single day w/ him and even spoke at his furneral. My parents have tapes of him playin purple rain and maggot brain in our make shift studio. I remember when I realized how famous he was. I attended a summer program at Rutgers University called SAI and he came to see me perform. The students went crazy when he walked onto the campus. One kid asked him to sign his guitar. I was so amazed that every musician there knew his name and his songs. I was blessed to have spent so much time w/ a living legend. I will post pictures soon.

eddie was my friend and my lover. listening to his music is the same as spending time with him. his music is his very essence.

I was happy to see brenda hazel's posts here. I'm curious about her and can't find a way to contact her, she has soooo many different email addresses.

I'd like to know when she married eddie because he and i were together from the time we were 19 until 1983. In 1983 he called me from detroit and was living with "Pam".

brenda sounds alittle peaved about babygirl53's post. of course thousands of women loved eddie. to know him was to love him.

in monterrey california (1983) he asked me to marry him. i politely declined. I spent so much time with funkadelic, p-funk and everything else they were called. it wasn't a lifestyle i wanted permanetly.
we still remained friends for some time after that with him still asking and me still saying "no". he never mentioned a wife. i certainly can't imagine him with a JEALOUS wife for sure! so brenda, you weren't his first choice. how do you like them apples?

to eddie, because i know you are still with me, i miss you so much. you were an important person to me and in my heart there is a permant place for you and all our memories. rest in peace my love.

I don't know how long ago Stella posted her nonsense, but it's extremely insensitive and inappropriate. I haven't talked with Brenda in many months (too many!), but I am fortunate enough to call her my friend. I also know that she has too much going on professionally to bother with nonsense spread on internet forums. Say what you will, but who was behind the podium for Eddie when he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

Disrespecting Brenda Hazel is absolutely unacceptable. Especially when it comes from someone who pretty much stated "I was a P-Funk groupie for years".
